This is a building complex for an architectural material company that mainly deals with import carpet and domestic acoustic absorption material. We renovate and expand the existing building which has basement floor and 3 floors above the ground.Save this picture!© Hiromatsu Misa, Yuming SongDue to the difference of ground level, basement floor has open space on its south side, but on its north side it can’t get daylight. We need to carefully design the expanded volume so as not to block the daylight into the existing space. We studied a lot of models, like hollow volumes around central courtyard with several separated volumes, and finally decided upon a simple box. As a result, on the one hand its volume is just a simple box with a lot of randomly openings on its walls and roof, on the other hand the four scattered small courts make the plan complex.Save this picture!© Hiromatsu Misa, Yuming SongSave this picture!AxonometricSave this picture!© Hiromatsu Misa, Yuming SongSave this picture!1F planSince the openings of the small courts are restrained so that we feel it “inside”, but inside we can see trees and receive enough daylight from skylights so we feel it “outside”, of course the existing area also receive enough daylight. That is to say, the inside and outside are reversed, or those are merged.Save this picture!© Hiromatsu Misa, Yuming SongThe ceiling of office area on the first floor is designed as sawtooth ceiling, adding the fake beams to hide the existing beam. By putting the lighting at the internal corner of the ceiling, as if the daylight from the sawtooth ceiling adds rhythm to the office place and it is filled with sufficient and homogeneous light.Save this picture!© Hiromatsu Misa, Yuming SongOn the second floor, galleries, conference rooms and president’s office are required, and each room is separated with glass partitions. Those partition is cranked to unevenness and Ivy is hanged inside glass alcove. Coupled with the black colored glass on the corridor, the uneven glass irregularly reflects the scenery and adds unusual effect to the ordinary life.Save this picture!© Hiromatsu Misa, Yuming SongSave this picture!Section b-bSave this picture!© Hiromatsu Misa, Yuming SongIn the residence on the 3rd floor, the space is design as minimal in which gray is set as base color. Indirect lighting that illuminates the wall and ceiling is arranged in a balanced manner , making it a comfortable space enveloped in warm light.Save this picture!© Hiromatsu Misa, Yuming SongProject gallerySee allShow lessSunny Side Box / STARSISSelected ProjectsAndrés Jaque Presents a New Version of The Popular TV Show ‘Sex and the City’Exhibition Share ArchDaily Year:  2017 BMLZ Villa Office / Tsutsumi & AssociatesSave this projectSaveBMLZ Villa Office / Tsutsumi & Associatescenter_img ShareFacebookTwitterPinterestWhatsappMailOrhttps://www.archdaily.com/887482/bmlz-villa-office-tsutsumi-and-associates Clipboard “COPY” CopyHouses, Offices, Offices Interiors•Beijing, China Save this picture!© Hiromatsu Misa, Yuming Song+ 50Curated by Joanna Wong Share China Area:  740 m² Year Completion year of this architecture project Houses ShareFacebookTwitterPinterestWhatsappMailOrhttps://www.archdaily.com/887482/bmlz-villa-office-tsutsumi-and-associates Clipboard BMLZ Villa Office / Tsutsumi & Associateslast_img read more

A Republican Ban on Internet Gambling Would Repeat a Costly Democratic Mistake

first_imgCARTOONS | HENRY PAYNEVIEW CARTOONThe problem for Adelson and his allies is that the UIGEA and other federal statutes apply only when state borders are crossed. The 10th Amendment and the principles of federalism mean that federal lawmakers should have no say regarding activities that take place entirely within one state’s borders. So if state governments wish to authorize online gambling for their citizens, they are and should remain free to do so.Adelson’s gang has been trying for some time to pass the Restoration of America’s Wire Act to stop states from setting their own gaming rules. Despite its misleading name, RAWA would go even further than the original and erroneous interpretation of the Wire Act, as even that dealt only with interstate activity.RAWA has failed to muster enough support to move forward thus far, but another bill, SB 3376, was recently introduced by Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., with very similar language, suggesting there may be an attempt to sneak it through during the lame-duck session. Trump’s campaign received significant support from Adelson, so Republicans might also try to take it up in the new Congress.Doing so would mean ditching their oft-claimed support for the 10th Amendment and state sovereignty. It would also set a precedent for Democrats, who will eventually hold power again, to similarly prohibit the forms of online commerce they find distasteful, such as gun and ammunition sales.Republicans should learn from today’s dismayed Democrats and resist the temptation — while in power — to operate beyond constitutional limits so that such limits might still be around to keep the other side in check once control of the federal government inevitably changes hands again.Share this on Facebook (6)TweetFacebookTwitterCopy LinkEmailShare A Republican Ban on Internet Gambling Would Repeat a Costly Democratic MistakeVeronique de Rugy Veronique de Rugy for TOWNHALLMany on the left have taken Donald Trump’s surprise victory poorly, responding with considerable hand-wringing and emotional outbursts. Instead of simply focusing on the many evils that they anticipate will take place under President Trump, they would do well to look in the mirror and recognize that there would be far less cause for concern had they not spent the past eight years cheering on the expansion of executive power under President Barack Obama.Republicans, soon to control all elected branches for the first time in a decade, ignore this lesson at their peril.A group of congressional Republicans has been trying to undo the Department of Justice’s acknowledgment in 2011 that the Wire Act — passed before the internet existed — never should have been interpreted to prevent all forms of online gambling (such as poker and lotteries), as opposed to the “bets or wagers on any sporting event or contest” that the statute explicitly addresses. They’re worked up about it because billionaire casino owner Sheldon Adelson is a GOP megadonor and some states have begun authorizing online gambling within their borders. Adelson hates online gambling, as it competes with his bricks-and-mortar Las Vegas casinos for customers.More than five years ago, on what has become known to the poker world as Black Friday, the federal government unleashed a legal jihad against online poker companies and their top executives. Online poker is not itself illegal — a fact clarified by the DOJ’s reinterpretation of the Wire Act — but the 2006 Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act made it illegal for payment processors to transfer funds to and from gambling sites.last_img read more
