Share Chairman of MWAD’s Interim Commitee Mathias Peltier Jr.Chairman of the Interim Committee charged with reviving the Media Workers Association of Dominica (MWAD) Mathias Peltier Jr. believes formal training for media practitioners is one of the key challenges facing media workers.Peltier Jr. told a membership meeting of the organization on Wednesday evening, “training is key” but lamented that only a few media persons in Dominica have been formally trained.“There are a lot of young people who have potential and they have not received training. If these people receive the kind of training that they need I think the media in Dominica will go a lot of places”.He said as a body MWAD’s primary focus “is to provide training opportunities for media workers” and is of the opinion that without the necessary training, media workers “cannot go anywhere”.The Chairman said with all the challenges being faced by its membership it is their responsibility “to take” the organization forward.“You cannot and should not depend on a few people to move MWAD. MWAD will only grow with its membership. I have been in this organization for a number of years and what I have seen happening is a few people at the top are the ones only participating in the meetings, and then everybody wants everything done by these set of people”.He noted however, that there seems to be “new enthusiasm” by the younger people in the media and he would “like to see that continue” as it is a very encouraging sign. The Committee is in the process of writing to a few international bodies who have requested information pertinent to offering some assistance to the Association.Dominica Vibes News Tweet 35 Views   no discussionscenter_img Share Share LocalNews MWAD seeking to provide training opportunities for membership by: – June 7, 2012last_img
