WHY DONEGAL FOLK ARE GIVING THE CLOTHES OFF THEIR BACKS FOR A GREAT CAUSE

first_imgWardrobes in Donegal are set to empty over the coming weekend as people respond to the “Homes From Donegal” charity clothing collection on the 7th & 8th February. There are 55 collection points around the county, with funds raised being used to build much needed housing in the Central African Republic for refugees. The founder of “Homes From Donegal”, Tim Jackson from Stranorlar, said there has ben a huge response to the appeal. “I’ve been inundated with calls from people who want to give us whatever they can. The response has been really incredible. So far we have built nine homes, and every single piece of clothing we get will help build more.”“At a cost of only €700, the price of a new iPhone really, a home will provide a family with shelter and security, easing some of the hardships the refugees have faced over the past two years.”“Homes From Donegal” began after Tim travelled to the Central African Republic last year, helping the NGO, Caritas.Having been displaced in a bloody war that swept the Central African Republic, one million refugees fled into make-shift camps and Church grounds for protection. Most have had to stay there despite a reprieve in the violence, as their homes and villages have been destroyed by rebels. Seeing the poverty and suffering of so many innocent refugees, he decided on his return to Ireland to start raising money to build homes with Caritas. All funds raised in the “Homes From Donegal” clothing collection will benefit this worthy cause.
