QPR’s Phillips was interested in joining Leeds, says Redfearn

first_imgQPR winger Matt Phillips was interested in a summer move to Leeds United, their former boss Neil Redfearn has claimed.Redfearn told Radio Yorkshire that Phillips was one of four players he approached, along with former Rangers midfielder Joey Barton, Derby defender Jason Shackell and Stoke City’s Charlie Adam.Barton, who joined Burnley after being released by QPR, has since said on Twitter that Redfearn never contacted him directly.However, Redfearn said all four players were interested – until his departure as Leeds boss last May put an end to his plans.Joey Barton was also targeted by LeedsHe said: “I was consulted at the end of the season by [chairman] Andrew Umbers about possible signings and additions to the side. I came up with a list.“People like Joey Barton, Jason Shackell and Matty Phillips – all good players. [Charlie] Adam as well, who Thommo [assistant manager Steve Thompson] knew from Stoke City.“These were all players that were interested.
